VISUALLY BASED PERCEPTION TRAINING

Concept and project proposal
Zagreb, 1994/1997

Visually Based Perception Training was/has been primarily an artistic concept that stretched from workshops over sculptures in public space focusing on architectural details to dislocation of inventory from one public institution to another.

It was conceived as a project proposal in 1994 with the aim of researching into the relation between visual stimuli, perception and knowledge. Planned as special program of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, it was to take place in public and non-gallery spaces over a longer period of time. Due to the lack of funding, it was dismissed from the museum program, and was only partially realized in 1995-97 on different occasions. The project encompassed the focusing machine concept for sculptural interventions, which would allowe random passersby to observe various hidden details in different public spaces in Zagreb (partially effectuated within the 30th Zagreb Salon, 1995); then the rotation of inventory – furniture and everyday objects – among several public institutions and companies (school, clinic, museum, car retailer) in the city center (this part was not put into practice); and workshops with students, residents and passersby (the participatory section of the project was partially realized). The concept Visually Based Perception Training was awarded the Zagreb Salon Award in 1995.
